The Garnet Star
I made this in a jewelry class at The Crucible, this amazing industrial art facility in West Oakland where everyone (and everything) is pierced. (Think Burning Man condensed into one large building.)
The base metal is brass — I think. (I don’t know for sure because I found it in the parking lot!). Everything else (except the stone) is sterling silver; I think the stone is a garnet, although it might just be ordinary glass. No matter — I like the way it gleams.
I added the rivets to this piece because we learned how to make them in the class and were supposed to incorporate them into our project. They accidentally ended up looking like little birds with googley eyes!
